SECURE is currently recruiting for a Management Trainee who will be relocated for our 6-month training program in Red Deer Alberta. The Management Trainee will learn to oversee our Metals Recycling team in Red Deer. The Management Trainee will learn how the operations work and what is required to be successful in their new role. This position will teach the ins and outs of the operation including the responsibility for the safety and efficiency of their teams’ operations. This position will require the candidate to be able to supervise a team and operate equipment effectively and efficiently.

Once you have completed your 6-month training program you will be relocated to one of our other facilities to operate and oversee the operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Plan daily/weekly manpower needs based upon business demands and closely monitors overtime hours and dollars

Assigns tasks insuring efficient allocation of labor maximizing productivity

Oversees facility equipment: ensures equipment is safe, operational and regularly serviced.

Motivates, trains and develops a productive cohesive team

Ensures that employees are provided with and consistently use approved safety equipment.

Ensures yard staff is continually trained in product knowledge and organizing the yard operation to function in an organized, productive way.

Maintains the upkeep and maintenance of capital investments (i.e. building property, equipment, etc.)

Conducts weekly safety meetings and consistently executes all safety policies. Directs supervisors and foremen ensuring safe working practices are strictly adhered to while maintaining a safe working environment

Conducts monthly safety/yard inspections, documents findings/observations and distributes to the appropriate management personnel

Oversees inventory quality and insures accurate quality control

Manages the logistics of all material (location, flow of goods) to ensure proper storage avoiding congestion.

Ensures proper disposal of all damaged/scrap material in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Manages yard and warehouse ensuring compliance with company cleanliness and housekeeping standards

Ensure compliance with Secure’s Health, Safety and Environment Management System, to include leading by personal example to support Secure ’s ongoing commitment to zero incidents

Liaise with other Secure business units to exploit opportunities and optimize efficiency

Develop and maintain relationships with clients and customers to ensure optimum customer service and maintenance of contract requirements

Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have:

Minimum 5 years of work experience in a supervisory capacity within the metals recycling industry

Proven ability to supervise operations while effectively coordinating equipment and labour and controlling costs in order to meet or exceed budget targets

Lead by strong personal example and possess a track record of building successful teams, effectively motivating people and maintaining effective relationships with clients and customers

Qualified to operate scrap metal excavators including shears and material handlers

Strong mechanical knowledge with respect to the maintenance, servicing and repair of equipment and vehicles

Expert problem solving and time management skills

Ability to communicate effectively and express thoughts and ideas in a clear manner
